She began her acting career in New York City stage productions before starring in the short-lived television series American Gothic (1995–1996) and Jack & Jill (1999–2001). She later appeared in comedy films such as What Women Want (2000) and Down with Love (2003), and drama films such as Path to War (2002) and The Notorious Bettie Page (2005). The SAG card from that made him eligible to audition for Lee Phillips, who cast him as The Lieutenant in the film for television of "The Red Badge of Courage" with Richard Thomas as The Youth. That was followed by several guest star roles on the series "Petrocelli" produced by Leonard Katzman.
After two years in California performing in plays at Company of Angels and doing roles in episodics and miniseries, Cox moved to New York in the late 1970s. During this time Witting met his future wife, Renee Rogers, who was also a Hampton Playhouse apprentice. Many summers throughout his career Witting returned to the Hampton Playhouse as either an actor or director until the Playhouse was demolished in 2001.
