Detective Chief Superintendent Maurice Jobson is forced to remember the very similar disappearance of Clare Kemplay, who was found dead in 1974, and the subsequent imprisonment of local boy Michael Myshkin. Washed-up local solicitor John Piggott becomes convinced of Myshkin's innocence and begins to fight on his behalf, unwittingly providing a catalyst for Jobson to start to right some wrongs.

David Mark Morrissey (born 21 June 1964) is an English actor and director. Morrissey grew up in the Kensington and Knotty Ash areas of Liverpool. He learned to act at the Everyman Youth Theatre, alongside Ian Hart, Mark and Stephen McGann, and Cathy Tyson. At the age of 18, he and Hart were cast in the television series One Summer (1983), which won them recognition throughout the country. After making One Summer, Morrissey attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before acting with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
Throughout the 1990s, he often portrayed policemen and soldiers, though took other defining roles such as Bradley Headstone in Our Mutual Friend (1998) and Christopher Finzi in Hilary and Jackie (1998). More film parts followed, including roles in Some Voices (2000) and Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001), before he played the critically acclaimed roles of Stephen Collins in State of Play (2003) and Gordon Brown in The Deal (2003). The former won him a nomination at the British Academy Television Awards and the latter a Best Actor award at the Royal Television Society Awards. His film roles have not always been acclaimed; his appearance as the male lead in Basic Instinct 2 (2006) was widely criticised, and The Reaping (2007) bombed at the box office. Since then, he has had leading roles in Sense and Sensibility (2008), Red Riding (2009) and Five Days (2010), acted in the films Nowhere Boy (2009) and Centurion (2010), and produced and starred in the crime drama Thorne (2010). He returned to the stage in 2008 for a run of Neil LaBute's In a Dark Dark House and will take the title role in the Liverpool Everyman's production of Macbeth in 2011.
As a director Morrissey has helmed short films, and the dramas Sweet Revenge (2001) and Passer By (2004) for the BBC. His feature debut, Don't Worry About Me, premiered at the 2009 London Film Festival and was broadcast on BBC television in March 2010. He is married to the novelist Esther Freud, has three children and is a patron of numerous charities.

Sean Harris (born 1966, Bethnal Green, London, England) is a British actor, best known for his film roles in 24 Hour Party People (2002), Prometheus (2012), The King (2019), The Green Knight (2021), Spencer (2021), The Stranger (2022), and the Mission: Impossible franchise (2015-2018). As a stage actor, Harris was a member of the Glasgow Citizens Theatre, where he performed in stage productions such as Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet directed by Giles Havergal and as Carino in Don Juan directed by Robert David MacDonald. He also appeared as Lysander in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Matthew Lloyd at the Haymarket Theatre (Leicester) and as Johnny in a Nottingham Playhouse production of Angels Rave On, directed by Jonathan Church. Harris won a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor for his role in the miniseries Southcliffe (2013) and received three consecutive BAFTA nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in ‘71 (2014), Macbeth (2015), and Trespass Against Us (2016). Tony Pitts is an actor, screenwriter and playwright. Born in Sheffield, Pitts originally intended to become a physician but ended up working as a car mechanic in his early career. During his time at Stannington College, Sheffield Barry Hines paid a visit looking for extras for his upcoming drama Looks and Smiles. Pitts was cast and soon upgraded to a bigger role in the production. He decided to follow his ambition to become an actor in 1983, landing the role of Archie Brooks in the long running ITV soap Emmerdale. He remained in the show for a total of ten years, when the character was killed off in the infamous plane crash episode of 30th December 1993. Since then, Pitts has worked in TV, film, radio and theatre including War Horse, Lilyhammer and Peaky Blinders. In 2018, Pitts wrote, produced and starred in the film Funny Cow - the story of a female stand up comedian (played by his friend Maxine Peake) on the northern club circuit in the 1970s. In 2021, Pitts and actress Katherine Kelly set up the production company Make Me Films. They released their first short, Let Her Go, in 2022. It was written by Pitts and marked his directorial debut. He is also the host, alongside John Bishop, of the podcast Three Little Words.

Mark Addy (born 14 January 1964) is an English actor. He is known for varied roles in British television, including Detective Constable Gary Boyle in the sitcom The Thin Blue Line (1995–1996) and Hercules in the fantasy drama series Atlantis (2013–2015).

Daniel Mays was born on March 31, 1978 in Epping, Essex, England as Daniel Alan Mays. He is an actor, known for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (2011), The Bank Job (2008) and Atonement (2007). He has performed five plays at the Royal Court Theatre in London including two in the theatre's 50th Anniversary year in parts that were specifically written for him. He won the Best Actor prize at the Palmare Television Festival 2003 for his performance in the hard hitting improvised BBC film Rehab. He has made two films with the acclaimed British director Mike Leigh. All or Nothing (2002) and the 1950s abortion drama, Vera Drake (2004), which received 3 Academy Award Nominations, the Golden Lion Award for Best Film, 3 Bafta Awards and 6 British Independent Film Awards including Best British Independent Film. Robert Sheehan (born 7 January 1988) is an Irish actor. Sheehan is known for playing Klaus Hargreeves on Netflix's original series The Umbrella Academy. He is the son of Joe and Maria Sheehan. His father was a member of the Garda Síochána, the police force of the Republic of Ireland. As a child, Sheehan was interested in performing music. He learned how to play the banjo, the bodhrán, and the spoons. He took part in the Fleadh Cheoil, an Irish music competition for children and teenagers. His interest in acting started when his mother took him to an audition for drama film "Song for a Raggy Boy" (2003), about an oppressive school for boys during World War II. Sheehan won an acting part in the film and socialized with other young actors. Following his film debut, Sheehan started acting in theatrical performances.
Andrew Russell Garfield (born 20 August 1983) is an English and American actor. He came to international attention in 2010 with the supporting role of Eduardo Saverin in the drama The Social Network. He reprised the role on Broadway in 2018, winning the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.
