Kate and her brutish boyfriend Big Al sell handguns on the streets of New York. She's smart, stylish, and self-confident, but all that leaves her when Al, in a jealous and self-indulgent rage, beats her. Three friends encourage her recovery: Vic, a woman who would like to be Kate's lover; Reilly, who runs with Al but also is attracted to Kate and repulsed by Al's violence; and, Liz, the counselor assigned to Kate from a battered-women's program. Vic and Reilly talk about killing Al, Liz gives pep talks; Kate remains frightened. Will Al's menace and Kate's dependency hold sway?

Milla Jovovich (born December 17, 1975) is an Ukrainian-born American actress, supermodel, musician, and fashion designer. Over her career, she has appeared in a number of science fiction and action themed films, for which music channel VH1 has referred to her as the "reigning queen of kick-butt".
She has appeared on the cover of more than a hundred magazines, and has also starred in films such as The Fifth Element (1997), Ultraviolet (2006), and the 'Resident Evil' franchise. Jovovich began modeling at eleven, when Richard Avedon featured her in Revlon's "Most Unforgettable Women in the World" advertisements, and she continued her career with other campaigns for L'Oréal cosmetics, Banana Republic, Christian Dior, Donna Karan, and Versace.
In 1988, she had her first professional acting role in the television film The Night Train to Kathmandu, and later that year she appeared in her first feature film, Two Moon Junction. Following more small television appearances such as the "Fair Exchange" (1989) and a 1989 role as a French girl (she was 14 at the time then) on a Married with Children episode and film roles, she gained notoriety with the romance film Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991). Jovovich then acted alongside Bruce Willis in the science fiction film The Fifth Element (1997), and later played the title role in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999). In addition to her modelling and acting career, Jovovich released a music album, The Divine Comedy in 1994. She continues to release demos for other songs on her official website and contributes to film soundtracks as well; Jovovich has yet to release another album. In 2003, she and model Carmen Hawk created the clothing line Jovovich-Hawk, which ceased operations in early 2008. In its third season prior to its demise, the pieces could be found at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Harvey Nichols, and over 50 stores around the world.

Sarah Strange (born September 6, 1974) is a Canadian actress, known for her work in a variety of American and Canadian television and film projects, most notably as Helen in the Canadian drama Da Vinci's Inquest and as the voice actor for Ranma Saotome.
Strange was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, the daughter of screenwriters Susan Lynn (née Ward) and Marc Strange (creators of The Beachcombers). She grew up in Canada's entertainment industry, and has appeared in comedic, dramatic, and science fiction projects on both big and small screens since graduating high school.
Strange has since garnered multiple Gemini Award nominations for her acting, winning an award for her guest role in the Canadian series Neon Rider at 21. Strange is also known for playing the voice of boy-type Ranma Saotome for the OAVs, movies and first three seasons of the anime series Ranma ½. She played Jill Langston in the Canadian Science drama ReGenesis. Jill was lead virologist in season 1 and 2.
She also provided the voice of Franklin in Dinobabies and Rookie in Littlest Pet Shop.
Most recently, Strange was among the cast of the American romantic comedy-drama Men In Trees, on which she portrayed the town barmaid and a reconciling wife opposite Abraham Benrubi. The role comes two years after a previous series for the network. She also appeared on Life As We Know It as a recurring role named "Mia", the mother of Kelly Osbourne's character. She also reprised her role of Ganos Lal/Morgan le Fay in the direct-to-DVD movie Stargate: The Ark of Truth.
