Manhattan prosecutor Nick is charged with looking into the untimely death of city resident Matt, a musician who had AIDS. As she questions Matt's loyal family members -mother Lila and sister Dana- she comes to learn that his closest pal, health-care worker Brian, is an ardent believer in assisted suicide and that he threw Matt a big party before his death. This presents a dilemma for the humane but dutiful Nick.

Brent Carver (November 17, 1951 – August 4, 2020) was a Canadian actor who was best known for his performances on Broadway in Parade as Leo Frank and Kiss of the Spider Woman as Molina, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical in 1993.
Olympia Dukakis (June 20, 1931 – May 1, 2021) was an American actress. She performed in more than 130 stage productions, more than 60 films and in 50 television series. Best known as a screen actress, she started her career in theater. Not long after her arrival in New York City, she won an Obie Award for Best Actress in 1963 for her off-Broadway performance in Bertolt Brecht's Man Equals Man.
She later moved to film acting and won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, among other accolades, for her performance in Moonstruck (1987). She received another Golden Globe nomination for Sinatra (1992) and Emmy Award nominations for Lucky Day (1991), More Tales of the City (1998) and Joan of Arc (1999). Dukakis's autobiography, Ask Me Again Tomorrow: A Life in Progress, was published in 2003. In 2018, a feature-length documentary about her life, titled Olympia, was released theatrically in the United States.

Jane Elizabeth Leeves (born 18 April 1961) is an English actress, comedian, and dancer. She is best known for her role as Daphne Moon on NBC's sitcom Frasier (1993–2004), for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She's also known for her roles as Dr. Kitt Voss on The Resident and Joy Scroggs on TV Land's sitcom Hot in Cleveland.
She made her screen debut with a small role in the 1983 popular British comedy television show Benny Hill Show, Leeves moved to the United States, where she performed in small roles until she secured a recurring part in the television sitcom Murphy Brown.
In 1986-1988, she garnered her first leading role in the short-living sitcom Throb. In 1993, she achieved wider fame as Daphne Moon on the television sitcom Frasier for the entire run of the series, from 1993 until 2004, for which she was nominated for Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards during the show's run. She received further recognition for her performances in Miracle on 34th Street (1994), Music of the Heart (1999) and The Event (2003). Sarah Ellen Polley OC (born January 8, 1979) is a Canadian filmmaker, political activist and retired actress. She first garnered attention as a child actress for her role as Ramona Quimby in the television series Ramona, based on Beverly Cleary's books. This subsequently led to her role as Sara Stanley in the Canadian television series Road to Avonlea (1990–1996). She has starred in many feature films, including The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), Exotica (1994), The Sweet Hereafter (1997), Guinevere (1999), Go (1999), The Weight of Water (2000), No Such Thing (2001), My Life Without Me (2003), Dawn of the Dead (2004), Splice (2009), and Mr. Nobody (2009).
Polley made her feature film directorial debut with Away from Her (2006), for which she won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Director and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Polley's second film, Take This Waltz (2011), premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, followed by her first documentary film, Stories We Tell (2012). Parker Christian Posey (born November 8, 1968) is an American actress and musician. Posey is the recipient of a Golden Globe Award nomination, a Satellite Award nomination and two Independent Spirit Award nominations.
Posey made her film debut in Joey Breaker (1993). Following small roles in Coneheads and the cult classic Dazed and Confused (both also 1993), she was labeled "Queen of the Indies" for starring in a succession of independent films throughout the 1990s, such as Sleep with Me (1994), Frisk, Party Girl, The Doom Generation, Kicking and Screaming (all 1995), The Daytrippers (1996), Henry Fool, The House of Yes and Clockwatchers (all 1997). Cynthia Preston (born May 18, 1968), sometimes credited as Cyndy Preston, is a Canadian television and film actress.
Preston was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Best known internationally for playing Faith Rosco on the American soap opera General Hospital from 2002 to 2005, and also for providing the voice of Zelda in The Legend of Zelda segments that aired as part of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show in 1989. She has also appeared in episodes of The Outer Limits, Total Recall 2070, Neon Rider, Street Legal, Katts and Dog, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
She has also appeared in a number of films, including the role of Claire in Whale Music, Ursula in the Canadian cult-horror classic Pin, and Melissa Tyler in If Looks Could Kill - Teen Agent.
In August 2007, she was in Ottawa, Canada, to shoot a movie called The Love of Her Life, which premiered on Lifetime. Along the side, Preston also acts in many off-broadway productions.
