Cook was born in 1948 in South Shields, County Durham, the son of a school cook and a car worker. When he was 6, his family moved to Coventry; he went to Wyken Croft Junior School and then Caludon Castle School and is a graduate of Rose Bruford College.

Pip Torrens (born June 2, 1960) is an English actor. He studied English Literature at Trinity College, Cambridge. His television appearances include Consenting Adults, two episodes of Doctor Who ("Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood"), Green Wing,Silk, The Government Inspector (as John Scarlett), The Last Detective and DI Torrens for a few episodes in The Bill in 2001. He has also appeared in a 2008 series of UK television advertisements for First Direct, with Matthew King. In 2011, he appeared in both episodes of an Outnumbered two-part special. In 2012 he appeared in the first episode of series 8 of Hustle and presented new gameshow The Devil's Dinner Party. His film appearances include Tomorrow Never Dies as the captain of HMS Bedford, the 2001 film To End All Wars and voicework for Valiant.

David Schaal (born 27 May 1963 in Albuquerque, New Mexico) is an English actor best known for playing the roles of "Taffy" in The Office and "Terry Cartwright" in The Inbetweeners.
Schaal studied Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama (1985–1988) and has worked in television, film and theatre. His television credits include Missing, Casualty, The Wrong Door, Beautiful People, Hancock and Joan, Ashes To Ashes, The IT Crowd, Deceit, Doc Martin, Peak Practice, Silent Witness and Dangerfield. His film credits include Kidulthood, Mr. Nobody, Clubbed and Dirty Weekend.
Schaal also appeared as "Norm", Shirley Carter's seedy landlord, in EastEnders and played troubled father "Tom Hargreaves" in Grange Hill. Other notable credits include playing "DS Bevan" in Paul Greengrass' The Murder of Stephen Lawrence, playing opposite William Baldwin in the film Relative Values, and appearing in Philip Davis' English football hooligan film I.D. Schaal also played "Eric" in Ben Wheatley's domestic British gangster film Down Terrace.
Schaal wrote the short films Poppy's Present (directed by Chris Jury) and Half Time (directed by Duncan Roe). He also co-wrote the play Reality Chokes and appeared in it as "Rob" in London and directed a production of the play at the Edinburgh Festival in 2010. Other writing credits include the plays Shame, No Hiding Place, The Legacy of Colonel Ash and Baby Blue.

Cheryl Hall (born 23 July 1950, London) is a British actress. She is best known for playing the role of Shirley, the girlfriend of Wolfie Smith in the British sitcom Citizen Smith. She also appeared in Dear Mother...Love Albert playing Rodney Bewes' screen girlfriend and as a clippy in the On the Buses episode The Epidemic. She appeared in the Doctor Who story Carnival of Monsters (1973)[2] (and had, a couple of years earlier, been shortlisted for the part of the Doctor's companion Jo Grant before the part went to actress Katy Manning), and as an inmate in one episode of Within These Walls (1974) and was David Jason's love interest in the ITV sitcom Lucky Feller. She also had a small role in EastEnders. Film appearances included the Avarice segment of The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins and the all-star pop comedy Three for All(1975). Hall was the Labour Party parliamentary candidate for Canterbury in the 1997 General Election. She also served as a member of Kent County Council, holding the position of Leader of the Labour group for a period. She still acts occasionally, most recently in The Bill (2005). She was married to the actor Robert Lindsay (who played Wolfie Smith in Citizen Smith) from 1974 to 1980
