Margaret Mitchell, portrayed as rebellious and spirited as Scarlett O'Hara, grows up in a comfortably middle-class Atlanta home, absorbing her grandmother's stories of the Civil War and the burning of their city by the Yankees. Young Peggy, as she likes to be called, goes to Smith College in Massachusetts and hates it. Back in Atlanta, her mildly scandalous reputation is made more so by her first marriage, to Red Upshaw, a bootlegging rake. Later, her second husband encourages her to expand her writing talents beyond feature articles for The Atlanta Journal. Her first and only novel becomes one of the best-selling books of all time.

Matt Mulhern was trained as an actor by William Esper at Mason Gross School of the Arts, where he received a BFA in Acting. He was first cast as Joseph Wykowski in Neil Simon's Tony Award winning "Biloxi Blues". From there, he went on to a film, TV, and theater career as an actor, appearing in films such as "One Crazy Summer," Extreme Prejudice," "Biloxi Blues," "Sunchaser," "Infinity," and "Walking To The Waterline," which he also wrote and directed for IFC films. New York theater includes: "The One-Armed Man" at Ensemble Studio Theater, "Surviving Grace" at the Union Square Theater, "The Night Hank Williams Died" at the Orpheum Theater, "Wasted" at the WPA, Regional appearances at La Jolla Playhouse in "The Glass Menagerie", "The Habitation of Dragons", at Pittsburgh Public Theater, and the National Tour of "Death of a Salesman" as Biff opposite Hal Holbrook, and, most recently, "Orphans Home Cycle" at Hartford Stage. On TV he played the Lieutenant as a regular on the top ten CBS hit "Major Dad" as well as many other pilots, recurring and guest roles, most recently a recurring role on FX's "Rescue Me," and appearances on Fox's "Fringe," and CBS's "CSI." He has written and directed two films, "Walking to the Waterline" (which he also acted in), and "Duane Hopwood" starring David Schwimmer, named "One of the Best Films of 2005" by Roger Ebert, and shown at the Sundance Film Festival, before being theatrically released by IFC Films. A veteran television actress and Broadway star of the 50s, Rue McClanahan was an actress noticed by television executive, Norman Lear. Lear cast her in a number of television shows, including "All in the Family" (1971) with 'Carroll OConnor' and "Maude" (1972) with Bea Arthur. McClanahan next co-starred with Vicki Lawrence, Ken Berry, Betty White and Carol Burnett in "Mama's Family" (1983) for three years, and after it was canceled by NBC, McClanahan was probably best known for her role as the saucy, sharp southern belle, Blanche, in "The Golden Girls" (1985). She once again worked with Bea Arthur and Betty White, and with relative newcomer Estelle Getty. All four of the women won Emmy Awards for their roles. After Bea Arthur left the show after eight seasons, McClanahan, White and Getty returned for a brief spin-off in "The Golden Palace" (1992). In the mid-nineties, McClanahan was diagnosed with cancer, but was able to fight it successfully. In addition to lending her talents to a number of made for TV films, McClanahan has also appeared on the big screen in recent years co-starring with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in the comedy Out to Sea (1997) and with Casper Van Dien in Starship Troopers (1997). McClanahan also spends her time joining and helping organizations against cancer, AIDS, and cruelty against animals.
Joanne Pankow (nee Field) was an American actress, born July 8 (professionally going by 1937 birth year). She was a nearly lifelong resident of North Carolina, living most of her years, and passing away, in Asheville.
John Ward was lured into show business at the age of 12 when his younger sister, Jennifer, was named the photo double and stand-in for Drew Barrymore in Stephen King's Firestarter (1984), which was shot in his native Wilmington, NC. This gave him the acting bug, leading to several small acting roles over the years. In 1998 he made his directorial debut with Enchanted (1998), a film he also wrote, produced and starred in. It went on to cult status on cable, airing to this day. From there, he continued to write and direct feature films, with 11 to date. In 2013, he wrote, produced and directed Heart of the Country (2013) based upon the 2012 novel of the same name Ward also authored. He served as President of Bay Ridge Films, Inc. He died from complications from a rare plasma cell disorder on February 16 in 2024, Newport Beach, California.
Zach Hanner is an American actor, stage director and writer born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina in June 1969. He spent his formative years growing up in nearby Pilot Mountain. After attending the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival in High Point, he knew that the stage would be a lifelong passion. At the age of 10, he landed the lead role in the Christmas opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" and, soon after, portrayed the role of Dill in "To Kill A Mockingbird," both shows staged at the Andy Griffith Playhouse in Mt. Airy, Griffith's hometown. Hanner also developed a love for music, taking piano lessons, playing drums in the school band and studying voice for many years, eventually earning a spot in the esteemed choral ensemble at the North Carolina Governor's School in 1985. Having eschewed the stage for the basketball court throughout high school, he rediscovered his love for performing while attending the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He threw himself in to theater headlong, studying with amazing professors Paul Ferguson and Randall Hill in UNC's Performance Studies department, eventually receiving his Bachelor's degree.
