Muthu (Prabhu) and Veerasamy (Chandrasekhar) are fishermen and they fish together in the same boat. Muthu lives with his mother (S. N. Lakshmi). Veerasamy drinks lot of alcohol and he has a sister, Meena (Kasthuri) who is in love with Muthu. Muthu decides to marry his carefree friend Veerasamy to Ponni (Chithra). In a financial trouble, Veerasamy joins Kumar's boat, Kumar (Radha Ravi) is a rich fishermen union leader. Veerasamy realizes that Meena is in love with Muthu and he promises to Muthu his sister's hand. Meanwhile, Kumar asks Veerasamy to marry Meena, compelled by his wife, Veerasamy accepts. Hopeless, Meena ties to herself a Thaali, she says to Veerasamy that Muthu marries her and Muthu confirms to save her honor. Veerasamy gets angry but when Muthu says the truth, he apologizes to him. Kumar beats Muthu's mother and kidnaps Meena, he arranges a forced marriage between him and Meena. Muthu saves her and he marry her with his best friend blessing.

Prabhu
Prabhu is an Indian film actor and producer who has predominantly appeared in Tamil language films. He is the son of veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan, while his own son Vikram Prabhu is also an upcoming Tamil actor.
Chandrasekhar also known as Vagai Chandrasekhar, is an Indian stage, film and television actor working in Tamil language films, known for his histrionics. He played lead or supportive roles in Tamil films of the 1980s. He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 2002 film Nanba Nanba.
Kasthuri is an Indian film actress, model and TV show anchor. Kasthuri debuted in the Tamil film Aatha Un Koyiley in 1991, and appeared in a number of Tamil films thereafter, including the horror film Rasathi Varum Naal, Government Mappilai,Chinnavar' 'and Senthamizh Paatu alongside Prabhu Ganesan in 1992. Kasturi was the subject of a 30-minute documentary film Kasthuri: A South Indian Film star made by Richard Breyer and N. C. Rajamani in 1995. Although Kasthuri initially retired from film after her Hindi short film The Bypass in 2003, she made a come back in 2010 with the film Thamizh Padam.

He is known for his roles as an antagonist in Tamil films and a he acted in Chellamae serial. He is also known for his controversial criticism of other film personalities.
Goundamani (born Subramani Karuppaiya) is an Indian film actor and comedian. He is better known for his comic duo partnership in Tamil films with fellow actor Senthil. His real name "Mani" got the "Counter" prefix for his ability to give counter on the spot and off the script on stage and during shooting which eventually evolved into Goundamani as per Bhagyaraj who was writing scripts and title credits for Bharathiraja in his early days during the movie 16 Vayathinile.

It is being directed by debutant Arokiadoss, a former assistant of Gautham Vasudev Menon.

A recipient of the state government's Kalaimamani and Kalaiselvam awards, Lakshmi acted in more than 1,500 films and 6,000 dramas.
