When Nick and Jan move into their new apartment in San Francisco, the batty landlady upstairs tells them about a girl who used to live there in the 20's: a brash young party girl named Maxie, who died in a car crash the morning before her big audition for a Hollywood studio. The trouble is, Maxie, or rather her ghost, hasn't left the house. Worse, she can take over Jan's body. And the only way she's going to leave is if she gets that audition.

Mandy Patinkin is an American stage, film and television actor and tenor vocalist. Patinkin is a noted interpreter of the music of Stephen Sondheim and is known for his work in musical theatre, originating iconic roles such as Georges Seurat in Sunday in the Park with George, Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden and Burrs in The Wild Party. He has also appeared in television series' such as Chicago Hope, Dead Like Me, the first two seasons of Criminal Minds, and Homeland. Ruth Gordon Jones (October 30, 1896 – August 28, 1985) was an American actress, screenwriter and playwright. Gordon began her career performing on Broadway at age nineteen. Known for her nasal voice and distinctive personality, she gained international recognition and critical acclaim for film roles that continued into her seventies and eighties. Her later work included performances in Rosemary's Baby (1968), Where's Poppa? (1970), Harold and Maude (1971), Every Which Way but Loose (1978) and Any Which Way You Can (1980).
In addition to her acting career, Gordon wrote numerous plays, film scripts, and books, most notably co-writing the screenplay for the 1949 film Adam's Rib. Gordon won an Oscar, an Emmy, and two Golden Globe Awards for her acting, as well as received three Academy Award nominations for her writing.

Valerie Curtin (born March 31, 1945) is an American actress and screenwriter. Curtin was born in Jackson Heights, New York, the daughter of radio actor Joseph Curtin. She attended Lake Erie College.
She is a cousin of TV comedian/actress Jane Curtin. She was married to writer and director Barry Levinson from 1975–1982.

Michael Ensign (born 13 February 1944) is an American actor. He was born in Arizona (height 6' 1" (1,85 m)), and he is of British/American descent, living extensively in both the USA and the UK. He trained as an actor at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He spent the first eleven years of his professional career in the theatre in Britain. He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1972 to 1975. He played the leading man (Donald) in the musical, 'Irene', at London's Adelphi Theatre in 1978. He appeared in the London productions of The Curse Of The Starving Class (Royal Court Theatre), The Red Devil Battery Sign (Phoenix Theatre) and numerous English Repertory Theatres. His film and television work has been primarily in the USA. In 2009 he was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the College of Fine Arts, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. Michael Ensign is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Glen Chin (January 27, 1948 – August 16, 2018) was an American actor of Chinese descent who starred in film and television.
Chin grew up in Stockton, California, where he attended Amos Alonzo Stagg High School and was active in drama and choir. He studied music at the University of Pacific Conservatory of Music and played the double bass violin with the Stockton Symphony.
Chin appeared in 50 First Dates as the humorous Hawaiian café regular, The Underachievers (1987), and After One Cigarette as Shigeru. He appeared in Chinese cinema in such films as Hollywood Hong Kong. Chin's television credits include Boy Meets World (the Eskimo), Night Stand with Dick Dietrick (Coco), Mighty Max, and Seinfeld. He played a villain's role in the 1998 movie, Knock Off (film).
In the Seinfeld episode "The Opera", Chin plays Harry Fong, a character who buys a scalped ticket to an opera from George Costanza right before (or during) his girlfriend Susan ends up making the opera, so in the end, Jerry Seinfeld, Elaine Benes, Cosmo Kramer, Chin's character, and Susan all end up watching the opera.

Conan Lee Yuen-Ba (李元霸) is a film actor and martial artist born in Hong Kong in 1959. His family moved to Queens, New York, where he grew up as Lloyd Hutchinson. After high school, he moved to California to be an actor. There, Hong Kong actor Fung Yi introduced him to a few producers including Ng See-Yuen (吳思遠). In 1982, he starred in Ninja in the Dragon's Den (龍之忍者).

Harry Robinson Hamlin (born October 30, 1951) is an American actor. He is known for his roles as Perseus in the 1981 fantasy film Clash of the Titans and as Michael Kuzak in the legal drama series L.A. Law, for which he received three Golden Globe nominations. For his recurring role on the AMC drama series Mad Men, Hamlin received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
