Rene Cardona directs the film version of Jose Leon Sanchez's best-selling novel, which relates the author's 20 years of imprisonment on an island ruled by brutality. When a sadistic man declares himself the boss of an island pueblo, an innocent husband and wife become the victims of his selfish rule. Once the evil man's deeds reach the authorities on the mainland, however, he sinks further into madness and declares "his" island its own republic.

Mario Almada
Mario Almada Otero (January 7, 1922 - October 4, 2016) was a Mexican actor with a career lasting over seven decades. He has appeared in over 370 films. He is most known for his roles in urban westerns and action pictures. He was the brother of actor Fernando Almada.
Almada was born in Huatabampo, Sonora. Apart from acting he was also a director, writer and film producer. He began his artistic career in Mexico during the 1930s. He has appeared in over 200 films, with his first being Madre Querida in 1935. In this film he acted alongside his brother Fernando as children as an extra. He would not appear in another film again until a few decades later.
Almada moved from his home city of Huatabampo to Ciudad Obregón and to Guadalajara, Jalisco, where he lived for many years until he settled down in Mexico City. Almada was born to a family connected to the film industry, and was exposed to film shootings from an early age and, when he moved to Mexico City, he began working at a nightclub called Cabaret Master that was owned by his father.
When his brother Fernando decided to take up acting, Mario decided to become a film producer. He wrote his first film script in 1963. The Almada brothers had their own family-run production company that eventually dissolved due to financial troubles from lack of profit.
Almada died in his sleep at the age of 94 on October 4, 2016.

Of Jewish origins, Wolf Ruvinskis Manevics was born in 1921 in Riga (Latvia), but fearing persecution during World War II his family relocated to Argentina, where they lived in extreme poverty. In spite of his deprived childhood, Wolf excelled in sports and became interested in wrestling. When he was 19 years old he started his professional career and toured South America, the United States and Mexico, where he decided to stay. Although he stayed on the ring until the 1960s - in matches with top Mexican wrestlers, as El Santo, Black Shadow, El Médico Asesino and Lobo Negro - Wolf was also a tango singer and a magician, and in 1949 he was called to act on the stage and in films. One of his biggest successes was _Bestia magnífica, La (1953)_, the first in a series of movies centered on Neutron, a character he created. His popularity was firmly established with his role as the handsome rural boy who becomes the victim of a mad scientist in the cult film The Body Snatcher (1957), he was a regular performer in all kinds of movies until the 1990's and was nominated for an Ariel as Best Supporting Actor for _Juego limpio (1996/II)_. He was also a businessman, and married three times: to Beatriz Perez, to dancer Armida Herrera, and to actress Lilia Micheluntil his death in 1999.
Rodrigo Puebla was born in San Diego de La Union, Guanajuato, Mexico, on March 13, 1929, and grew up in a modest environment. His life was marked by perseverance and sacrifice to achieve his dream of becoming an actor. Before becoming an actor, he worked in various occupations to support his family. Puebla was a recognized actor in the theatrical and television world in Latin America. His legacy as an actor continues to be remembered and appreciated for his talent and dedication to his career. He passed away on January 15, 1993 in Mexico City, Mexico.
