After learning of his sister's suicide, Nick, a small-time boxer, decides to pay a visit to his sister's junkie lover in Los Angeles, collect some money and pursue an early retirement in Mexico. Along the way, he meets a 9-year-old girl who's been abandoned by her father and together they hitchhike south.

Don Gordon (November 13, 1926 – April 24, 2017) was an American film and television actor, best known for playing in feature films alongside his friend Steve McQueen, such as "Bullitt", "Papillon" and "The Towering Inferno", as well as the western series "Wanted: Dead or Alive".
George Sawaya (August 14, 1923 – September 17, 2003) was an American stuntman and actor. He acted in almost one hundred different films and television episodes, but always as minor characters. His careerwas relatively consistent from the 1950s to the 1980s. Sawaya acted in the original Star Trek several times, first as Chief Humboldt in "The Menagerie, Part I" and then as Klingons in "Errand of Mercy" and "Day of the Dove".
David White (April 4, 1916 – November 27, 1990) was an American stage, film and television actor best known for playing Darrin's boss Larry Tate on Bewitched.
John Marley (October 17, 1907 – May 22, 1984) was an American actor who was known for his role as Phil Cavalleri in Love Story and as Jack Woltz— the defiant movie mogul who awakens to find the severed head of his prized horse in his bed—in The Godfather (1972). He starred in John Cassavetes' breakthrough feature Faces (1968) and appeared in The Glitter Dome (1984).

Bert Remsen (February 25, 1925 – April 22, 1999) was an American actor.
Remsen was born in Glen Cove, New York, on Long Island. He played character roles in numerous films directed by Robert Altman, including: Brewster McCloud (1970), McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), Thieves Like Us (1974), California Split (1974), Nashville (1975), Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson (1976), A Wedding (1978), "Dallas" as Harrison 'Dandy' Dandridge (1987) and Daddy's Dyin'...Who's Got the Will? (1990).
After suffering an injury on the set of a television show, Remsen had moved away from acting. He was hired as the casting director on Brewster McCloud when Altman talked him into taking a role in the film.
He was briefly married to Little House on the Prairie actress Katherine MacGregor.
