She was also considered one of the most beautiful film actresses of her time, and one of the greatest erotic myths of Spanish-language cinema. Along withPedro Armendáriz and Dolores del Río, she is one of the most important figures of Latin American cinema of the 1940s and 1950s. She is known by the nickname La Doña a name derived from her character in the film Doña Bárbara (1943). She is also known as María Bonita, thanks to the anthem composed exclusively for her, as a wedding gift by the composer Agustín Lara. She completed a film career that included 47 films made in Mexico, Spain, France, Italy and Argentina.

He began his acting career at the stage in Mexico City, entering films there in 1935. His first American film was "The Fugitive" for RKO in 1947. Since then he costarred in more than 80 films in Hollywood, England, France, Germany and Italy. When Armendariz was taken ill while filming the second James Bond film "From Russia With Love" his scenes were rushed through so he could return to L.A. for treatment and he entered UCLA Medical Center. Learning he had terminal cancer he killed himself there with a gunshot.

José Chávez Trowe (*México 12 de junio de 1916 - Oaxaca 13 de julio de 1988), fue un actor mexicano de cine y televisión. Nació en Ciudad de México de padres mexicanos. Comenzó su trayectoria desde 1938 en Los Millones de Chaflán. Algunas de sus películas fueron La Pachanga,Tragedia en tres actos, Cabo Blanco, El medio pelotodas estas mencionadas en la década 80 y sus películas de los años 70 fueron Puerto Maldito, los reyes de Palenque, Carita de primavera, Zona roja,las fuerzas vivas, Rapiña, entre otras. Murió el 13 de Julio de 1988 de causa natural a la edad de 72 años.
